WHY ACTIONS WE EMPOWER

The story behind the name, the work and the impact

Fiona Martin  Founder Director

"I know that I want to spend my life ensuring that others do not go through what I did in
trying to live a violence free life. My dream is to not have to do this work anymore
because society in its entirety will stand against domestic violence"

Fiona left a violent relationship holding her baby, with no support system nearby and no way to call for help. Isolated from family and friends, she escaped quietly, carrying only what mattered most — her child and the determination to keep them safe.

Many urged her to return. But Fiona knew one thing with certainty: she would never take her child back into violence and call it home.

Starting again with nothing but resilience, she rebuilt her life step by step. As she began to speak openly about surviving abuse, others started to reach out — people living in silence, searching for safety, understanding, and hope.

Fiona listened. She supported. She stood alongside survivors when few others would.

From those moments of solidarity, Actions We Empower was born. Fiona chose to leave behind a successful corporate career to raise her child and dedicate her life to supporting survivors of domestic violence — while building a powerful ecosystem of active bystanders, informed communities, and zero tolerance for abuse.

Today, her journey is no longer just her own.
It is the foundation of a movement — one that believes no survivor should have to walk alone and every abuser should be held accountable.
